At just 24, Lizl Simoes is stepping quietly but purposefully into the spotlight, proving that some of the most beautiful voices start from the gentle corner of the room.
From Pretoria, this pianist, singer, and music teacher is finally claiming her place on the stage after years of deep preparation. With a natural musicality and rare emotional sensitivity, Lizl creates from behind the piano — the place where stories unfold and everything in her world finally makes sense.
A Journey Written in Music
Lizl’s love affair with music began early. She started piano lessons at the tender age of five and added singing at nine. The stage soon became her second home. Her first vocal teacher opened doors most young musicians only dream of, giving her opportunities to experience the inside of a professional recording studio while still a child.
A pivotal turning point came during high school when she witnessed pianist Olga Kern performing Grieg’s Piano Concerto in A minor. That performance lit a fire. It convinced her that music wasn’t just a passion, it was her calling.
In 2024, she completed her B.Mus degree and is now pursuing her Master’s in Music at the University of Pretoria. While she has performed at events like the Pretoria Boeremark and Dromersmark, Lizl had not yet released original music, until recently. The ATKV-Crescendo mentorship programme became the catalyst she needed. It didn’t just sharpen her technical skills; it gave her the confidence to trust her own voice and begin sharing her music with the world.

Softness, Strength, and Everyday Magic
Influenced by artists like Laufey and Raye, Lizl’s sound lives beautifully between softness and strength. Her music is intimate and honest, it unfolds slowly, like a quiet conversation that gradually reveals its depth. You can hear the piano as both foundation and storyteller, supported by her warm, expressive vocals.
As a young woman married for two years, her greatest inspiration is love, not just the sweeping romantic gestures, but the quiet, everyday moments where something magical quietly exists. That tenderness flows naturally into her songwriting.
Visually and emotionally, Lizl sees herself as a wallflower beginning to bloom: the girl who once sat on the edge of the dance floor, observant and hesitant, now slowly stepping forward with growing confidence. Her music tells this exact journey, from uncertainty to self-assurance, from observer to creator.
Looking Ahead with Heart
Though she has not yet collaborated with other artists, it remains a dream on the horizon. Top of her list? A collaboration with Joshua na die Reën. She also hopes to grace the stage at the Kirkwood Wildsfees one day.
Above all, Lizl dreams of making music her full-time pursuit while staying true to her roots as a lifelong learner and teacher. She wants to inspire the next generation of young musicians, just as her own teachers once inspired her.
There is something deeply compelling about watching a quiet talent find her voice. Lizl Simoes is not rushing the spotlight, she is growing into it, petal by petal, note by note.
